Compass is great to work with, there’s a reason I continue to work with them. I think the automated systems in place this time around are decent, but far from ideal. The overall user experience is still clunky, confusing and the interface needs to be modernized. That said, I was able to figure it out and get it done. My negative comments are more with the mortgage process as opposed to Compass. The overall process is crazy stupid and WAY overly complicated and takes entirely too long. In today’s finance world, this should be 99% automated and should never take months. Again, not a knock against Compass directly. Would definitely work with them again. I think companies like Compass are going to have to invest in the “user experience” to compete with some of the newer business models. Those models are horribly impersonal today, but their version 2.0 or 3.0 are going to be radically better. I don’t think I would ever go that route – but I get laughed at by every Millennial I know when they hear I’m working with a “old-fashioned” mortgage company.
